That´s all, folks!

AAaaaaahhhh, Flying back to Finland tomorrow morning at 7.55. :0)
It has been great here, but I am looking forward to going home too. The weather here is driving me nuts, they really shouldn´t call this a summer!!! :P So hopefully there are still some summer days left in Finlandia for me..

No more posts on this site, so to speak. But keep in touch everyone. :D

Still here!

Hey hey,

Sorry for not writing for such a while. Another month has passed and I am still in Reykjavik. Turns out I will be here for the next 2,5 months. I just love the 10 degree so much that decided to enjoy it for a little longer!! ;0) Haha, not really.. The real reason for staying is a bit more reasonable: work. I really have to save some money for next year, and since it seemed to make more sense to stay here (in Finland I don´t have an appartment at the moment and other practicalities..) I thought what the heck, let´s see what the Icelandic summer feels like.
It´s been cold so far.
But that came as no surprise.
Anyway, I found work in a very nice small cafeteria called KaffiVin. It is an Austrian coffeehouse/restaurant, but because the owner changed about a month ago, we'll see what happens with the Austrian theme. Since it is such a small place, I have been able to learn both in the bar and in the kitchen. Have even learned some more Icelandic!!! All in all, it´s a nice place and I think that the summer will go well working there.
A lot of people left Iceland a couple of weeks ago. We who stayed here had to find a new appartment, because the old one changed into a guesthouse for the summer and the prices quadripled. Luckily we heard of a dormitory that would be rented for the summer for quite inexpensive prices, and got ourselves nice rooms here. It´s still quite close to downtown, I have a 5 minute bike ride to work.
Yeap, so that´s about it this time. Have been missing Finland a little bit lately, must be because of the weather. I want to go to sauna and swimming and have a bbq with my friends!!! I will be flying back home in the beginning of August, so should have time for that still before school starts.. :0)
Thank you for everyone who has sent me-mails lately. I´ll try to get down to answering very soon. In the meanwhile you all are in my thoughts..
Gotta go now.
Hugs,
Kaisa

To Akureyri and back

Hi hi folks,

Ahhh the sun is shining in Reykjavik and at times it has felt like perhaps there is some point in waiting for the summer here. (seems that i will be staying here for the summer..) Last week we went to the swimming pool (the temperature was somewhere around 12 degrees) and the Icelanders seemed to have gone nuts over the sun, laying on the pool in their bikinis trying to get some tan! What an absurd scene even for a Finn. We stayed in the hot pots and enjoyed the sun from there.

Our trip around Iceland was great! Too bad I am not able to post photos here. Don't know what the %$%$#$ is wrong with blogger (have to be careful so that they won't erase my blog..) but it just doesn't seem to work. The highlights were the sehr sympatisch town of Akureyri in the north, the whole eastern coast and the small church where spent the night (nowadays a one-room hostel). Of course there were lots and lots of good times on the road, sitting in the car with 3 other Finnish girls produced some very bad humour and good laughs! :D Would like to do the trip again on the summer time, though. I think that it is a lot prettier; you can see more without the snow and the roads should be in better condition..

Ok. Will keep it short this time.

Cheers,
Kaisa

Um páskana

Howdy howdy and happy easter to everyone!
It´s a great sunny day today and I am stuck in the computer lab at the university trying to write an essay. Whooh, where did the motivation disappear?! Well, a couple of more days to go before our trip. We will leave on sunday and drive around the island. The ring road that goes around the country is about 1400 km (900 miles) and we have planned to take it quite easy and drive the distance in 6 days. That way there is enough time to stop whatever place that seems interesting. In the map you can see the places where we will stay overnight: in Stykkisholmur, Brú, Akureyri, Egilsstadir (nearby) and in Skaftafell (nearby). Will post pics after we get home.
I am still trying to figure out wheter to stay here or go to Finland for the summer. The job hunt hasn't gone too well from here, especially when there aren't too many places to apply for in my home town in Finland. Here, on the other hand, it should be quite easy to find something, with the toursit season coming up and all. We´ll see..
Ok. Better get going now.

Roadtrip to Vik and back

Here are some views from our daytrip to the South of the island a couple of weeks ago. Had a great, sunny day and a car full of people. Looking forward to easter vacation already to see more of the country! :)
Otherwise, keeping busy with the school mainly. Have quite many projetcs to finish and also general studying for the exams already..
Greetings and hugs to everyone!

Long time no hear

Haudi!

Yeah yeah it has certainly been a while since I have paid attention to my blog. I guess I have been busy doing nothing most of the time lately! :)
The past couple of weeks include a road trip to the south part of the island (or an "off-road-trip" as we call it.. Will try to post some pics later on), going to school, to the movies and swimming, some serious Six feet under marathons etc.. Oh, and some partying.

There aren't that many weeks of school left, the last classes are in the beginning of April and after that people will lock into the library and start studying for the exams. We will try to sneak out for a week and drive around Iceland. Maybe have to take some books with us to study. Hahah.

Ok. Keeping it short this time.

Later,
Kaisa

The latest from Reykjavik

Hi y'all

A short report form Iceland. It has been raining for the past couple of days and walking to school has made me rather upset at times. Fortunately it's almost weekend (no school on fridays) and I can just stay inside if I want to. Although I think that is quite unlikely to happen. ;)

Last weekend was a lot of fun: on friday me and the other Kaisa partcipated in a party organized by the local business students union, Mágus. The party was called "Bjórvissuferð" (translation is something like: driving around in the bus, drinking beer and not knowing where you are going..) It was great fun, had some beers, sang karaoke and met a bunch of new people. Mágus organizes also company visits and parties, so the poor Icelanders will be seeing us around in the future as well.

Otherwise things have definitely fallen to their daily patterns. I think this is the time when you start to get a bit bored with your every day life and need something to add an extra kick to it. So perhaps a little fieldtrip or a great party (have one coming up next week) will do. :D

Ok folks. That's all for now.

Hugs
Kaisa
